"This mouthwatering Pinot Noir from the appellation of Lipoglav in Lower Styria in Slovenia. This area was planted to Pinot Noir and Chardonnay by the Carthusian Monks in 12th century. The continental climate offers a very prime venue to work in Burgundian tradition, which in this case carries over to farming, harvest, and winemaking. These grapes are dry farmed, harvested by hand and fermented using spontaneous ferment prior to 12 months of aging in mostly neutral French Oak barrels (it did cross my mind that they might be using Solvenian Oak barrels, which are popular in Piedmont, but alas--the barrels are French). The finished wine shows no fingerprints of oak barrel and is instead bright, earthy and pleasantly tart layered with ripe cherries, dark dusty mineral, and a layer of firm Pinot tannin. A true delight for the lover of Bourgogne Rouge and good Willamette Pinot alike. Partner it with stews, pulled pork, roasted veggies and root veggies."
