“The nose of this wine shows its age in elegant fashion. The deep, dried cherry and pomegranate, earthen cellar floor, dried bitter orange, and hallmark potpourri, with just a whisp of umami-rich portobello and tamari. On the palate, the wine is almost shockingly bright, with red sour cherry leading the parade until all of the aged, savory trappings can catch up. The tannins are high, yet delicately layered, providing long, beautifully chewy finish; the perfect compliment as the lingering dried sweet herbs and deep mushroomy earthiness fade to reveal surprising stony mineral right at the last moment. Captivating, soulful, and enthralling. It begs to be paired with decadence: slow roasted duck, prosciutto-wrapped boar chop, but especially mushroom risotto with black truffle."
