FAQ: Turkey Day

Gobble Gobble! Thanksgiving is a week away. Are you ready for the big day?

Here are a few tips and tricks on pairing wine & beer with your Thanksgiving feast:

1. You can never go wrong with sparkling wine! They are wonderful on their own and can be paired with just about anything.

2. When looking for white wines, balance is key. Gravitate toward whites that are refreshing, tangy, and fruity. Avoid whites that are too light or too oaky.

  • Riesling is an extremely versatile varietal and is at the top of my list for Thanksgiving. Its dynamic fruit and crisp acidity will refresh and invigorate your palate.
  • Sauvignon Blanc from Loire Valley has a certain je ne sais quoi when it comes to food. Its bracing acidity and minerality add depth to savory dishes.

3. If reds are more your style, look for wines with ample acidity and a good amount of fruit. Avoid reds that are too tannic.

  • Pinot Noir is the perfect party guest. Balanced acidity and generous fruit make it the classic "Turkey Wine".
  • Gamay provides a refreshing burst of energy with piercing acidity and bright berry flavors. Say it with me, Hooray for Beaujolais!
  • Cabernet Franc makes an excellent alternative to Pinot Noir. It offers mellow tannin and a festive array of autumnal flavors.
  • Zinfandel is a great option if you prefer a heartier red. It has the complexity to stand up to savory dishes but will not overpower the rest of the meal.
