"First off, Tatomer is super cool. To my knowledge there is no other producer in California experimenting and producing wine with Austrian and German grape varieties at this level. Graham Tatomer started making wine at the age of 16 with his first winery job at Santa Barbara Winery and has been in the wine business ever since including an apprenticeship at Knoll--one of the most respected producers in Austria. Tatomer Hinter der Mauer is a pretty unique blend of 80% Grüner Veltliner, 20% Riesling--sourced from John Sebastiano (Sta. Rita Hills AVA), Kick-On Ranch (Santa Barbara AVA), La Estancia Vineyard (Santa Lucia Highlands AVA). The resulting wine seems to offer perfect balance: the acid and minerality of Riesling tempered by the elegance, texture, and charm of Gruner Veltliner. Although Riesling comprises only 20% of the blend, that's really all it takes, it seems. A perfect wine to pair with sauteed green vegetables: asparagus, Brussel sprouts, broccoli and the like, but also a friendly aperitif. 1500 cases produced."
