"Pipeno is a recent category on the Chilean wine scene--although still an unofficial designation, these wines are generally made from the Pais grape variety, produced from old vines, farmed organically, and made to drink young and fresh. Oh man--absolutely thrilled to add this liter to the Chilean section. This wine is produced from 100% Pais. This grape variety holds the honor as Chile's most historical--in fact ampelographers have been able to track it's most probable origin back to "the common Spanish black grape" which was transported to Mexico in 1520 by the Spanish conquistador Hernan Cortes. Today it produces affable--and dare I say crushable red wines. This Pipeno is distinguished by mouthwatering black cherry, cola, crunchy plumbs and a dark minerality that only serves to enhance its already very thirst-quenching nature. This is exceptionally food friendly and well adapted to a slight chill."
