"Fourteen years on and the 2009 Pelan offers an impeccable balance of freshness and tertiary complexity from time in the bottle. There is a lot of stuffing here but with some age the tannins have mellowed and a delightfully earthy bouquet has begun to emerge. On the nose: cassis, white truffles, loads of black cherries, mushrooms, sous bois, orange peel, cherry liqueur, cedar box, pencil shavings, warm spices, black tea, and crunchy dried leaves. 2009 is a great vintage and as a result there is a lot of concentration and generosity here. I expect that this is at its very peak right now and will continue to drink nicely for the next 5-8 years. Opportunities like this don't come along very often--it's a nice thing to have properly aged Bordeaux in the house."
