"A suave cepages of 65% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc, 10% Cabernet--the Chateau Cap de Merle comes from the Saint Emilion satellite appellation of Lussac Saint Emilio--a clay limestone plateau to the west capable of producing outstanding quality to price ratio. Chateau Cap de Merle is owned and operated by brothers Alain and Jean Marie Bel who have been committed to working sustainably for more than 30 years. The resulting wine is concentrated, velvety, and driven by creamy black fruit that is satisfyingly simplistic, balanced, and just a delight to drink. The official farming practice here is 'lutte raisonee' which is to say that the Bels avoid using chemicals in the vineyard although in a pinch would resort to systematic treatment if became necessary to save the crop. This is wide open and ready to drink now and I suspect it will continue to deliver pleasurable drinking over the next 5-10 years. Pair it up with steak au poivre, skirt steak, roasted lamb, and the like."
