"The Perfect Red from Broc offers the sensible side of California Cabernet Sauvignon. Obviously, the king of grapes has a soft side--and it's about time we saw it show up a little more in the Golden State. Meanwhile, Chris Brockway at Broc cellars continues to kill it. The operation is based in Berkley where vineyard acreage continues to be eclipsed by well, just about everything--fortunately though, Chris has a knack for sourcing pristine fruit all over the state of Cali. This paricular example was sourced from Solano and brings the soul. Crunchy bramble is accented with notes of peppercorn, pureed currant, and black olive tapenade all shepherded to fruition with minimal sulfur and peak deliciousness. This is one Cabernet you need not partner with beef to attain palateability, infact it even performs generously as an aperitif."
