"The Unsi Tinto is farmed on high, wind-swept terraces on the slaty hillsides of Navarra, where 100+ year old vine Garnacha is capable of producing a wine of considerable depth, heart and soul. This small project is overseen by the watchful eye of Bodegas Anecoop, which is located in Valencia but maintains an outpost in Navarra to produce Unsi. The position of the vineyards are high and away from the neighbors (where the vines are protected from whatever the neighbors might be spraying on any given day). Although past vintages have been quite nice, I found the 2017 rendition of Unsi to be especially pleasurable. The nose offers generous wafts of potent black cherry, wild strawberries, orange rind, and slate. On the palate: an amalgamation of juicy Grenache tannins, layers of brambly fruit, and earthy grit. What an honest, soulful bottle of red wine for the money. Pair it up with steak paillard, albondigas, chorizo, or patatas bravas."
