"The Reserva from Baron de Ley is in an excellent spot right now: a middle ground that combines primary freshness with tertiary complexity. On the nose the wine is packed with precious trappings of vanilla, clove, rare spices, whispers of coconut, antique leather, and wood smoke. On the palate it is endowed with a plushness of red fruit and earth that makes it just so satisfying to drink. You could cozy up with this. But don’t kid yourself — this wine is made to pair with lamb. And if you like to veg like me, no shame in putting it up against some freshly grilled veggies. As is the tradition of Rioja, this wine spent 20 months in American Oak barrels, which contributes the coconut/dill type qualities to this wine. "
