"A key stanchion of Alto Adige benchmarks--Abbazia di Novacella has been producing wine since the year 1142. This is essentially an abbey, run by monks, extremely skilled at farming in the Isarco River Valley and making great wine, but especially impeccable white wine. This is their Kerner which is farmed organically on a combination of mica schist, para gneiss and quartzite. The resulting wine is affable and rife with mineral laden yellow apples and pear. Despite the history here, this is a fully modern winery and this particular bottling is fermented in stainless steel, using indigenous yeasts. The result is pretty irresistible and will offer the perfect accompaniment for garlic chicken, soft cheese and souffle, and Thai green curry."
