Hello Folks--

2015 Domaine Roche Audran Châteauneuf-du-Pape (100% Grenache

Of all the grand appellations for Grenache in the Southern Rhone—Châteauneuf-du-Pape is the most regal.

The golden standard for the Grenache-based blend.

The appellation took it’s name in the 1300s when Pope John XXII ordered the construction of a summer residence just outside of Avignon. Châteauneuf-du-Pape roughly translating to: “The Pope’s New Castle”.

This wind-swept plateau has since established itself as one of the single most iconic wine regions in France.

The estate on offer today is the latest addition to Ancona’s arsenal of soulful Grenache.

This property is the contiguous neighbor of the legendary Chateau Rayas, which points to the fact that these are not just great vineyards, but that this is some of the most hallowed ground in all of Châteauneuf.

The soil itself dates back to the Miocene period—a composition of molassic sand, and round pebbles originating from the Rhône River.

The vines at this domaine range from 30-100 years of age.

For the health of the vineyards, Roche Audran farms without herbicides and pesticides.

Harvest, winemaking, and bottling all take place in accordance to cosmic rhythms.

Certified Organic/Biodynamic.

There are 13 grapes allowable in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape blend. This wine uses just one.

And the end result punches well above its weight class.

This is sunshine in a glass, to warm you on a cold evening.

Happy Thanksgiving.

Codey Foster, Wine Director

My Notes Read: The Roche Audran CDP is rich, supple and black-fruited, carefully packed with a finely layered combination of black fruit, stony minerality, lavender, black pepper, black olive, cinnamon and spice. This is the luxurious velvety stuff. A true pleasure to drink all on its own but a prime candidate for herb-roasted meats. The texture alone. 14.5%

Longevity: This wine is perfect to drink this very moment (no decant needed), but I suspect it will drink vibrantly over the next 8-12 years.
