The Art of Sancerre

2018 Domaine Daniel Reverdy Sancerre Blanc (Loire Sauvignon Blanc)

And I bet a handful of you have already pulled cork on the 2018 D. Reverdy Sancerre--but for those of you who haven't, I gotta say:

This is simply exceptional Sancerre.

Of course, the Reverdy's make a nice wine in every vintage, not doubt--but this vintage in particular seems to achieve a new high water mark.

The perfect balance of delicate citrus, stony minerality, and freshness. There is no mistaking this wine for New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.

In a region where the ‘Reverdy’ name is about the local equivalent of the last name 'Smith'—it's important to distinguish.

This is the work of Daniel and his son Cyrille.

Here is Cyrille in the domaine's sharp cuverie.

These guys are located in the tiny hamlet of Chaudenay.

In other words, this is prime Sancerre real estate--snuggled right beside Chavignol.

All of their vines are located within 2 kilometers of the domaine and are planted primarily on argiolo-calcair—a mineral rich combination of limestone and clay.

The resulting wine is a true class act.

Clean. Crisp. Dry. And floats across the palate like a cloud.

The estate has just 9 hectares.

Fermented in stainless steel.

Domaine production hovers around 7000 cases.

This is likely the sharpest price in the country.

My Notes Read: The ’18 D. Reverdy just crushing is right now. Woven from a soft fabric of vibrant citrus: zesty lime, crisp green apple, and quintessential limestone minerality. The finish is lengthy and pleasant. Very light on its feet--weighing in at a cool crisp 12.5%
