Ancona’s Private Barrel #5: Corazon Reposado Tequila |

One barrel, one bottling, one exceptional offer… Ancona’s Private Barrel #5 a.k.a. APB#5 is in the house! We started Ancona’s Private Barrel program with one goal in mind, to share an incredible collection of hand selected, ultra-small batch spirits. With a little help/guidance from our friends at Jefferson’s, Four Roses, Knob Creek, and Buffalo Trace we've been able to share some very special and unique barrels with you. Barrels that exemplify a passion and appreciation for small-batch whiskey. We went in a different direction with APB#5. Ancona’s Private Barrel #5: Corazon Reposado Tequila Yup. TEQUILA! It was only natural for us to add Tequila to the APB lineup. At just about every staff "gathering" a bottle of Tequila somehow makes it to the table by the end of the night. In short, we are fans of really good Tequila. Enthusiasts, if you will. APB#5 is staff tested and owner approved. But in all seriousness, APB#5 sets the benchmark for superior, handcrafted, Reposado Tequila. It is remarkably approachable while maintaining a fascinating level of complexity. A smooth sipper that will have you pouring "just a little bit more" over and over. Don’t miss your chance to revel in the deliciousness that is APB#5. This guy is extremely limited and likely to sell out. My personal tasting notes: "Clear pale gold in color. On the nose, the first thing that hits you is citrus, more specifically lime. Underlying notes of sea spray (yeah, I went there) with a faint hint of time spent in the barrel. Flavors mirror the nose. Bright citrus followed quickly by a floral quality, dried orange peel, and warming oak. The finish is super soft and silky but remarkably long. That's the part that will have you going back for another sip." A little more about the barrel: APB#5 was carefully crafted at Casa San Matias, one of the few family-owned agave estates in Jalisco, Mexico. Their award-winning line of Corazon Tequila is cultivated, distilled, and hand bottled at the estate. Ancona's Reposado was made from 7 year old agave plants grown in Los Altos (the highlands) of Jalisco. After cooking for 48 hours in a stone oven the agave was fermented in open vats, allowing it to interact with native yeasts that embody the heart and soul of the region. The combination of a slow distillation process and temperature controlled aging resulted in a complex, balanced, and smooth spirit. From start to finish, APB#5 is everything (at least in my mind) a great tequila should be. Cheers! Mitch Ancona |
