Wine Advocate 90 points - Bodegas Botani’s 2010 Botani is made from 100% Moscatel de Alejandria sourced from old vines. The wine is fermented in stainless steel (60%) and wood puncheons (40%) with 5 months of aging sur lie. Fragrant aromas of jasmine, honey, and tropical fruits inform the nose of this nicely proportioned, intense, savory, dry white. It is an outstanding value for drinking over the next 1-2 years.
The surprising originality of Botani is the fruit from a rigorous process of grape selection and the great care taken in the winemaking process. The grapes used in this wine come from the vines from Almachar that grow on the north-facing mountainous slopes. After manual harvesting, at the end of June or the beginning of August, the grapes are brought to the selection table before pressing. Since they are extremely sensitive to climate changes, we were not able to make this wine in 2005.
