I love the July/August heat when the humid air naturally moisturizes my skin while sitting outside listening to the sounds of summer. This is the time of year I cherish every moment outside and opt for cooking and dining al fresco when earth's bounty is hitting its stride and the farm stands are flush with fresh vegetables, fruits and local meats. This weekend fire-up the barbie, cook a good steak with grilled veggies, cut up some fresh tomatoes with mozzarella and basil, and pour a glass of rich and lush Cabernet or Merlot from Napa or Sonoma. A splendid choice is the Bellarina Meritage 2008--a plush, plummy, yet well-structured blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc from Knights Valley in Sonoma produced in small quantities by husband and wife team Pierre and Susan Ehret.
